Abstract

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is initiating Risk MAP and has developed a multi year plan spanning FY10-FY14. The vision for Risk MAP is to deliver quality data that increases public awareness and leads to action that reduces risk to life and property. Risk MAP builds on flood hazard data and maps produced during the Flood Map Modernization program. The vision for Risk MAP is to work collaboratively with State, local, and Tribal entities to deliver quality data that increases public awareness and leads to action that reduces risk to life and property. It also aims to foster informed risk management decisions and actions to mitigate risk through a consistent risk-based approach to assessing potential vulnerability and losses. By analyzing and depicting flood risk, communities and the American public can better understand their risk and make informed decisions to reduce their vulnerability.

Bob Franke joined the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency Region VII staff in July 1987. He is currently a senior engineer in the Mitigation Division where his responsibilities include program and project management for FEMA’s flood hazard mapping program. He is the Region VII lead for the Cooperating Technical Partner Program.

William Zung, CFM is the Water and Environment Department Head and the Regional Service Center (RSC) Lead for Greenehorne & O’Mara, who is a partner in STARR. STARR is the Production and Technical Services Contractor for Risk MAP in FEMA Region VII.

Jason Schneider, P.E. CFM, Project Manager for Greenehorne & O’Mara who is partner in STARR. STARR is the Production and Technical Services Contractor for Risk MAP in FEMA Region VII. Previously worked as the Floodplain Management Engineer for the State of Missouri.
