Abstract

The Elevation Certificate Workshop is designed for local floodplain administrators, surveyors, engineers and others who deal with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The course will provide an understanding of the information needed to properly complete and evaluate an Elevation Certificate.

The Elevation Certificate is used in many aspects of the NFIP process. Floodplain administrators, lenders, and insurance agents all use this document to prove compliance issues related to the permitting process. This workshop dissects the document from these various points of view and highlights the important parts of the certificate for the various NFIP users. Significant changes to the Elevation Certificate occurred in 2009 and these revisions are outlined and emphasized.

Features of the workshop include building diagram review, lowest floor versus compliance floor discussions, and “hands on” completion of the new certificate.
