Title: Green Tools for Urban Stormwater Quality
Abstract:
This presentation will look at how a city can make changes to the stormwater technical manual in an effort to promote Low Impact Development (LID) and sustainable sites design. Through a sound scientific approach, local land use, soil types and precipitation averages can be studied for a thorough understanding of the area. This information can then be used to develop a stormwater technical manual specific to local conditions. LID design techniques allow for more innovative site design, minimal maintenance stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs), improved water quality and more.
The presentation will look at green streets, green roofs, and green parking lots will be discussed relevant to stormwater management. Design tools and examples will be presented for rain gardens, infiltration basins, and low impact development techniques.
Engineering methods for runoff curve number determination and design rainfall events will also be presented.
This will provide both municipal officials and consultants a look at the changes that can be made for improved water quality.
