Abstract
As Map Modernization enters the home stretch, FEMA has digital flood hazard data for most areas of the United States. This is a major step forward, and supports the use of digital flood map data for all official National Flood Insurance Program purposes.
To support the digital vision, FEMA has developed several tools for the use of digital flood hazard data. Regardless of your level of experience, everyone will benefit from one or mare of the tools. During the session, the various tools will be demonstrated, and possible applications will be discussed. Topics covered during the presentation include a brief overview of MapMod; use of a Web Map Service; use of the FIRM scan images; Flood-Map Image Tool (F-MIT) to create FIRMettes; Mapviewer-Web; Mapviewer-desktop; and Digital FIRM data.

HAZUS-MH is a loss estimation software developed by FEMA for local floodplain administrators to use as part of their mitigation efforts. HAZUS can help an official identify flooding within their community or use a community’s existing floodplain data to provide a loss estimation for the flooding extent. This presentation will show that using MapMOD data or community data will provide a more accurate loss estimation than running a Level 1 HAZUS study, in which HAZUS determines flooding within a community. The City of Springfield, Missouri, was selected as the study area to use HAZUS to create the flooding data with its Level 1 study analysis and then compare the output to the existing flood study from the Map Modernization effort for the City. This presentation will show the results that you can obtain from HAZUS that can be used within mitigation plans or various plans that a community may implement as part of planning.
